I have not bought shoes in a while. Buying shoes has become less of a priority for me recently since I realized that I still have enough shoes that I can wear to work and to the occasional weekend night-outs. Last Valentine’s Day, I had brunch with my fab hag Ish and I saw some pretty nice shoes over at Trilogy. The shoes were so nice, but I couldn’t afford them so I just shrugged the idea off my poor shoulder. After the yummoh brunch at Canteen, we headed to Greenbelt to do some window shopping. We both ended up buying stuff we didn’t really need.

I didn’t plan on buying anything for myself that day, but when I saw these denim-y shoes from Zara Man, I knew I’ve found my match!

I’m not really a big fan of sneakers but I don’t mind wearing them from time to time. My only problem with my sneaker non-fandom is that I tend to only own one pair of sneakers at any given time. I don’t really like to invest so much money on a pair of sneakers since I know that I would only get to wear them on the weekends. The company I work for has a business professional dress code so sneakers are only allowed on Friday nights (unless they declare it a dress down month).
And since it’s dress down month at work for the whole of December, I’m forced (not really) to wear sneakers. Athletic shoes are not allowed so I resort to either my leather shoes or my only pair of sneakers. I get bored with things easily so I decided that it was high time for me to buy a new pair. Then again, I really did not have a high time, or any time at all, to buy them sneaks.
Until one day when the boyfriend and I went to Cash n Carry Mall (yes, they are a mall now!) to buy some basic necessities for the house as well as some things which he needed for his Sagada trip. While waiting for him finish his micro-shopping, I headed into the direction of Mint. My intention was to buy a jacket and that was it (will post the jacket here soon). I ended up buying a jacket, a shirt and a pair of wayfarer-ish glasses.
The store right beside Mint is Otto. I never really paid attention to it since it was really unnoticeable. But when I stepped in, I saw the poor man’s shoe heaven. It was MY heaven! Okay, I’m exaggerating. B Club is my heaven. And Wade too. I went around Otto and found some interesting shoes at very friendly prices. Then I saw this pair of sneakers and kaboom! It hit me! I want sneakers!
About P700.00, that was the price of the sneaks I originally wanted. When I asked for my size, I was dismayed because they didn’t have it. So I dismissed the sneaker idea and decided to just continue looking around. Then I saw this lovely pair of sneakers:

Sunscreen is good, but it is not good enough. Although sunscreens can protect us from the harmful effects of the sun, they do not do so on what I call a full-time basis. Once you sweat or have your sunscreen-protected body wet in the water, the effectiveness of the sunscreen diminishes – even if your sunscreens say they are waterproof. This is according to Dra. Krisinda Dim-Jamora of Ths Skin Cancer Foundation Inc. of The Medical City.

Also, according to the medical journal The Lancet, while sunscreen is proven effective against two of the three most common skin cancers (basal carcinomas and squamous cell carcinoma); it has not been conclusively shown to protect against Melanoma. Melanoma is considered as the most fatal form of skin cancer, being responsible for 75% of its deaths. The same study suggests that clothing may be your best line of defense against the sun.
Columbia Sportswear, a global leader in the active outdoor apparel and footwear industries, is the first global company to receive The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Seal of Recommendation for their sun protective apparel called the Omni-Shade line. The Seal of Recommendation is awarded to safe and effective sun-protective clothing with a minimum Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) 30.
The Skin Cancer Foundation is the first organization in the United States to commit itself to educating the public and medical professionals about sun safety. It is also the only global organization solely devoted to the prevention, detection and treatment of skin cancer. Applications for the seal of recommendation are reviewed by the Skin Cancer Foundation’s photobiology committee, which is composed of five leading dermatologists from major medical centers in the United States.
By providing built-in sun protection, Columbia Sportswear’s Omni-Shade line extends the brand’s existing apparel offerings to achieve year-round protection from the elements. Columbia’s Omni-Shade apparel includes more than 100 UPF rated products for men, women and children that ensure protection against damaging UVA and UVB ultraviolet (UV) rays. Many Omni-Shade products are also pre-treated with UV inhibiting ingredients. Omni-Shade offers protection ranging from UPF 15 to UPF 50.

Founded in 1938 in Portland, Oregon, Columbia Sportswear Company is a global leader in the design, sourcing, marketing and distribution of active outdoor apparel and footwear. Me at the Project Runway Philippines Finale
I was so excited for the Final Runway Show of Project Runway Philippines that the first thing I thought of when I received my invites was: “I don’t have anything to wear!”
It is pretty normal for me to purchase a new set of clothes just for an event wherein I know that I will be photographed (feelingera!) and that I will be rubbing elbows with important people. Sometimes though, when I’m super short on cash, I just manage to whip up something from my closet and mix and match and sew and paint and whatever I can think of just to make the outfit look brand new. There’s nothing wrong with wearing old stuff. But there is something wrong with getting photographed on two different occasions wearing the SAME outfit.
So anyway, early in the afternoon prior to the runway show, I headed to SM Makati to shop. I knew I didn’t have enough money to buy me super nice things over at Greenbelt 5 so I decided to shop at SM Department Store. SM Department Stores, trust me, have everything you need! And what’s good about it is that you can buy non-signature items which look like signature items, at more than half the price.
So the photo above has the results of my thrift shopping experience. Except for the knitted maroon pullover vest and the white Wade shoes which I bought early in October, everything is brand new!
Here’s the rundown: Read more
